President Elect John Watson welcomed the Pakistani Consulate for Bradford.

He then passed the meeting to our speaker Mo Hayward. Mo is a capital appeals manager for the Methodist Homes Association (MHA) and she told us about the MHA which is a major provider of not-for-profit care homes, housing and support services for older people.

They offer a range of services throughout the UK to meet the differing needs of individuals in later life.

Established almost 70 years ago, MHA now delivers a range of services to over 12,500 individuals.  They serve approximately:

  • 3,000 older people in 73 residential, nursing and special dementia care homes
  • 1,500 older people in 49 sheltered housing and housing with care
  • 8,000 older people in community projects who still live in their own homes.

Their services are delivered by 5,000 dedicated staff and 5,000 committed volunteers.   Volunteers are always wanted to help with befriending residents or helping out in organising events or doing other odd jobs. The organisation has no shareholders and all funds go to the charity.

Currently there are 11 new developments taking place.

Existing projects in the Bradford Metropolitan area are: -

  • The Glen Rosa Care Home in Ilkley
  • The Rowanberries Housing Scheme in Clayton
  • A Live at Home scheme in Wibsey
  • A Live at Home scheme in Great Horton

Mo stressed that despite it's name the charity is non denominational and provides services to all ethnic groups.
