Wed Aug 4th 2010

On  4th August Fiona Turner and Tony Hardware spoke to us about the South Bucks Hospice. Fiona spoke about her role in organising events for much needed fund raising and also about linking with the community. The hospice is based at Pusey House in High Wycombe which was named after the founder of the area's Hospice movement, Edie Pusey and was opened in 1994 by Frankie Vaughan.
As well as the usual hospice services at Pusey House there is  the Lymphoedema clinic at Hazlemere which manages swollen limbs and is a very specialised service.
A new "companions at home" service has been launched where a volunteer visits patients at home for a couple of hours, to chat and maybe make them a cup of tea.
They are always looking for new ideas for fund raising as their costs are about  £750,000 per annum. Hopefully they will obtain a warehouse to enable them to deal with large items and furniture. Tony also spoke about their need to replace their hospice van which has done 200,000 miles.
