BODMIN CLUB - BIO DIESEL PROJECT 2012/13
Bodmin Club is collecting spent cooking oil for conversion to Bio Diesel, which will be used on the next "Overseas Project Team" (OPT) trip to Eastern Europe.
The collecting contact for this will be Rtn. Gerald May, Golden Fry, Bodmin. Please - will anyone with used cooking oil - no matter how large or small ( A litre from the chip pan is ok ) and if you know of any commercial outlet that may help ( eg. restaurants etc.) please let Gerald know.
The last OPT trip to Kosova was in May 2012 - 900litres of cooking oil was collected & processed, which amounted to a saving of approx. £850.00
Lets keep up the "Fry Drive" collections for the next trip.
The Sept. 2010 trip to Kosovo also used approx. 1000 litres of refined Bio Fuel and saved approx. £1000 in overall costs.
Sept. 2010 - Update: The Cosova / Albania Aid trip, with two fire engines, was successfully completed ( See Report - OPT International ) and the re-cycled oil was used to a fantastic financial advantage.
Quote from report : "We departed from Liskeard Fire Station at 0900hrs on 19-09-2010 and headed towards Dover. The first day was very different to previous convoys".
"Firstly we were running on BioDiesel and one fire appliance had to go to Stroud in Gloucestershire to collect, whilst theother vehicles all met at Exeter and then proceeded onto Clacket Services M25. We met there at 1600hrs and refuelled the vehicles, except the van, with the Bio diesel".
"This continued for the next four days and saved the team over £1000.00 in fuel costs; and not one of us smelt like a chip shop at all. The cooking oil once refined did have a slight odour of chips but that was all, much cleaner than ordinary diesel".
Aug 2010 - Update:
To date 1000 litres of oil collected and processed into Bio.Diesel
Processed by a Westcountry Fuel Company
Final cost (assuming free waste oil) approx. 20% of pump price.
May be used in fueling 2 x Fire Engines to Eastern Europe in near future. ( OPT Projects)
Anyone that can help with used Veg.Oil please contact Gerald May via the above contact form.
Gerald will accept all your old chip oil, no matter how small, just take it to him in a plastic bottle.
