David Warner gave a hugely amusing and interesting talk on the History of Punch & Judy in England over the last 300+ years.
Originating in Italy as Ponchinello, this live and spontaneous puppet drama travelled from the South Mediterranean through Germany and France till it arrived in England in time for Samuel Pepys to see the first showing of Punch and Judy in this country.
David used his own glove puppets to make the whole subject come alive and now we all know the difference between a swozzle and a swizzle stick.
