Young singer Louisa Haggerty who represented Amersham Rotary Club and Rotary District 1260 at the National Final.

The national final of the Rotary Young Musician competition at the Bedford School gave Rotarians from all over Britain and Ireland the opportunity to hear 16 exceptional youngsters perform and compete at the highest level of youth music.

Singer Louisa Haggerty, who represented  Amersham Rotary Club and District 1260, did us all proud with her lovely performance of Song of Dreams and Mozart’s Cherubino aria.

However, the judges gave first place in the vocal section to Grace Farrell of District 1060, second to Fiona Joice of District 1230 and third to Samantha Quillish of District 1090.

The instrumental section was won by pianist Rebecca Leung from District 1130, a 12-year-old prodigy playing Mozart and Debussy. Second was violinist Julia Hwang of District 1100, and third was yet another violinist, Emma Rushworth of District 1280.

Chief judge Mark Wildman, who combines his singing career with his work as Professor of Singing at the Royal Academy of Music, praised all the competitors, and thanked RIBI for providing such a valuable platform and performance experience for young musicians.

The event was co-ordinated by Rtn Moira Bartlett and other members of the Rotary District 1070 Young Musician Committee, and thanks go to her and her team for providing a most exceptional afternoon, complete with wonderful refreshments.
