On Monday 4th July the Rotary Club of Bishop's Stortford installed its new President, Peter Amos, during its lunch meeting at Bishop's Stortford Golf Club.  Peter joined the Rotary club in April 2004 since when he has chaired a number of committees including fund raising, membership and club administration.  Peter, a local businessman, is well known and respected in the property business and comes to his new post with a wealth of experience that will be put to good use during his year in office.

During his out-going speech, 'Immediate Past' President Rick Waterhouse paid tribute to the club members who had worked so hard to ensure that his year had been a successful one and during which the club had celebrated its 3000th meeting since it was chartered in 1946.  Among some of the outstanding achievements were the Youth Opportunities programme that saw 483 local school children benefit from taking part in a variety of schemes such as Young Chef, Youth Speaks and Young Technician.  The Community and Vocational team were very much hands-on as usual during the year running the Christmas parcel scheme that, thanks to generous donations by the public and support from Waitrose, was able to distribute some 250 parcels to needy families.  It organised also the senior citizens drive and helped with the Kids Out project, funding a trip to Paradise Park for disabled children.  Internationally, the club supported the international aid efforts during the Pakistan and Japan disasters by funding a number of shelter boxes as well as some 10 aqua boxes that were sent to disaster areas around the world. In addition the club continued its support of the 2 Interact Clubs at The Bishop's Stortford High School and Hockerill Anglo-European College as well as providing expertise and support to the introduction of a third club at the Hertfordshire and Essex High School.  These young people are learning first hand the meaning of true community service and are a credit to their schools and to Rotary.  Finally, I.P.P. Rick paid tribute to the public who, through generous giving during the Christmas collections and the charity golf day, contributed some
