Andy Holding, Community Affairs Manager, Birmingham Airport - Day to day operations, recent developments and future plans for expansion
Our speaker this evening, Andy Holding Community Affairs Manager at Birmingham Airport, gave a tour de force presentation about the running of this major regional organisation.
In thirty minutes we learnt about the footfall of passengers, the corporate infrastructure, and the fact the management company directly employ only 10%, about 600, of the 6,000 people who derive their livelihood from the airport, the rest working for nearly 150 other service provider organisations.
The prospect of building a 400m extension to the runway is nearing fruition providing the potential to over double the number of passengers which can be catered for and vastly increasing the destinations which can be reached, so that far away places such as Ashbagot in Turkmenistan are no longer just places on a map.
