The Molindinar Burn

A talk by Mr Murray Blair.

This evening, members were treated to a lively and most interesting talk on the Molindinar Burn. Once a well known but much overused water source in the City of Glasgow, it contributed richly to the growing wealth and history of the conurbation over the centuries. Originating in Frankfield Loch to the north east of the City, it flowed through the Cathedral district down to the Clyde, providing drinking water, laundry facilities, industrial power and last, but not least, sewage disposal! Now mostly channelled through underground culverts, there are places where the water still flows on the surface but this once vital spring is almost completely forgotten by the inhabitants of the City. Fortunately for us, Mr Murray Blair, a former Rhodesian Army officer and current member of the Old Glasgow Club, has become somewhat of an expert in Glasgow history and was kind enough to pass on some of his extensive knowledge through his talk. The members thoroughly enjoyed it and are very grateful to Murray.
