In the State Orphanages and Hospitals of Romania in 1990 – just months after the fall of the Romanian Dictator – Nicolae Ceausescu, of the thousands of children seen, one common observation was noted with them all – a total lack of Smiles. It seemed the children didn’t know how to smile but it soon became all too clear, that sadly they really had nothing to smile about. After several years of regular visits to Romania, supported by many from the UK and America who were providing significant ‘aid’ for distribution and funding for several ongoing projects, it was decided to establish an official Charity - The Smiles Foundation.

For thirteen years now, an army of like-minded people have established the work to help bring Smiles, once again to the Romanian people. The Charity seeks to transform lives through the relief of poverty, promotion of education and provision of ‘hope & opportunity’ for many through a variety of projects which include Education, Housing provision, Medical Support, Social Assistance, Food Distribution, Child Care and Life Skills Training.
