Ben Parsons was crowned Basingstoke Young Chef 2011 at the Basingstoke round of the Rotary Young Chef competition held at BCOT on Friday 4th. November.In a very close competition Hannah Toogood was second and Oliver Payne third, both of whom attend Costello Technology College. Ben who hopes to become a chef and study at BCOT when he leaves Costello Technology College was judged best Young Chef of the fifteen entrants from the Basingstoke area. He now goes on to represent Basingstoke in the Rotary District 1110 competition. The competition was organized by the Rotary Club of Basingstoke Deane on behalf of the three Basingstoke Rotary Clubs.
Presenting Ben with his trophy, Basingstoke Deane President Marion Cornick congratulated the contestants on the high standard of their cooking skills and variety of menu choices which included mussels, tagliatelle,
salmon en croute, lime and mango ice cream and banoffee pie.
She also thanked BCOT for the use of their facilities and especially Duncan Brammall, Head of Catering for his assistance and hospitality and the judges, Chris Swain, Terry Tarrant and Andy Chilton for generously giving their time.
At the presentations, judge Chris Swain added his congratulations to all the the contestants saying how impressed the judges were by the skills show by them especially Ben who even made his own tagliatelle.
