Computers in Sri Lanka

WHAT HAS HASTINGS ROTARY FOUNDATION GRANT DONE?

As you know during my year as President I managed to obtain from District a Matching Grant. We had to raise $9800 while District 1120 supplied a grant of $1000, Colombo RC $100 and Colombo District $100 making a total of $11,000.

So where has this money gone?

Together with the help of Colombo RC we have provided 10 computers, printers, software, desks and tuition to a Children's Home and Community Centre in Batticaloa, Sri Lanka. Hazel and I visited the centre in 2010 to meet the 15 girls who live and study at the home and we also saw all the great work being done to help the community that has suffered from the Tsunami and war. We are pleased to say that with the money raised Colombo RC has done an excellent job in purchasing and installing the computers and everything is now all up and running.

7 computers are for the local community to use and 3 computers for the girls school, full training has also been supplied. This area has suffered so very badly leaving many orphans, widows and men without work so all our fund raising efforts will really make a huge difference to so many people.
