A talk by Mr Alan Marsh from the Maritime Coast Guard Agency

This evening, we were privileged to have Capt Alan Marsh speak to us about the Maritime Coastguard Agency and his role within the organization as an Enforcement Officer based on the Clyde but covering the whole of Scotland and Northern Ireland. In this capacity, he is an Inspector checking that vessels comply with current regulations and legislation and he receives approximately 80 reports a year, of which he fully investigates about 30 of the most serious and prepares a report to the Procurator Fiscal. These might include collisions at sea or vessels becoming grounded. Capt Marsh also took the time to explain the differences between Scottish and English Law in these matters. All the members found the subject fascinating and we are most grateful to Capt Marsh for taking the time from his busy schedule to come along and brief us on this important maritime function.
