John Paul Jones

A talk by Lt Cdr Brian Searle.


This evening, members were addressed by Lt Cdr Brian Searle, RN (Retd), on the subject of "John Paul Jones", the Scottish father of the American Navy.  Brian's talk consisted of a potted history of John Paul's life with a fair smattering of anecdotes to keep the listeners highly amused.  Sadly, time constraints kept Brian from giving us the complete story of this larger than life character but we all thoroughly enjoyed his talk and learned much about an imprtant historical figure who had an influence not only in America but also Europe and Russia but who had originated here in Scotland.
