Fisherman's Mission

A talk by Ms Sharon Kane.

This evening, members were addressed by Ms Sharon Kane, the Fund Raising Manager of the 'Fishermen's Mission', a national charity dedicated to helping fishermen, their families and their communities.  Although there are other charities helping seafarers of all descriptions, the Fishermen's Mission is the only one specifically set up to help those working in the fishing industry, which is still a vital occupation for the Country.  Even these days, fishing remains one of the most dangerous professions, despite the help of modern technology and design.  As Sharon explained, there were 15 fatalities in the fishing industry last year and so far this first month of the new year there have already been 6.  The Club was very grateful to Sharon for giving us an insight into the work done by the charity and President Elect, John MacLeod, presented her with a small donation on behalf of all the members.

During the business portion of the meeting, John MacLeod and Ritchie Foulds were presented by Jane Cox with an apron each as a token of gratitude for their sterling help during the District finals of the Young Musician's competition.
