A talk by Mr Vincent Gillan.

This evening's talk was by Mr Vincent Gillan, the Assistant Curator of the McLean Museum in Greenock.  He regailed us with the history of the Scotts Ship Building Company, a 260 year old family run enterprise spanning 5 generations, which will be forever intrinsically linked with the history of Greenock.  His presentation wasn't a dry, chronological list of events but rather an insight into how it was the people associated with the business and the Town that made the Company and the Town world leaders in the ship building industry.  He made extensive use of old photographsand diagrams to illustrate how the Company came into existence, how it shaped the development of Greenock and how the Town had changed since the demise of the industry.  This brought an immediacy to his talk and stirred some memories in some of our older members.  Everyone is garteful to Vincent for his engaging presentation.
