Dagoretti Well Project.

Dagoretti  Corner Street Children Programme-DCSCP is a UK registered charity working with street children in the slums of Nairobi. Working on land owned by the charity we provide shelter, food, teaching and support to vulnerable children , also sponsorship of some children to secondary school and technical college.

See more detail of the charity here.

Vegetables are cultivated on the land but until recently all water had to be bought from nearby wells.

Thanks to a grant from Stonehouse Rotary  and a matching grant from Rotary District we have been able to dig a well on the land.

The well is 70 feet deep and has about 20 feet of water. When not in use it is capped and padlocked for security reasons-security of the children on the land and from theft by local people. The well is providing sufficient water for irrigation, washing, and for use in the new latrines. It has improved hygiene and cleanliness in the centre We are aiming to provide as much local sustainability to the project as possible and are monitoring the supply with a view to selling the water once we have assessed our own requirements. We are planning to install electricity on the land and will then hope to have an electric pump.
