We focus on helping mainly small charities where our funds are likely to make a difference and who have no significant overheads. Those we helped recently included:-
Eyes for East Africa– This charity works on saving sight in Kenya (see their website at http://www.eyesforeastafrica.org). We donated £1,000 to help purchase a motorcycle for staff to hold eye clinics in remote villages.
ShelterBox–The club has supported ShelterBox for a number of years in its work to provide immediate aid to areas hit by natural or other major disasters anywhere around the globe (see their website at http://www.shelterbox.org)
Classrooms in the Clouds(CitC) – With the help of other Rotary clubs and local charities North Wirral was fortunate to obtain a grant of $35,000 from Rotary International in 2016 towards the rebuilding of a school in Nepal supported by the club and which had been devastated by the recent earthquake and its aftershocks (see Classrooms website at http://www.classroomsintheclouds.org)
Projects organised by the Rotary Club of Phnom Penh, Cambodia - For the second year, the club donated £1,000 to the Rotary Club of Phnom Penh for the purchase of 350 mosquito nets given to families in remote villages to help prevent malaria and also for the surgical treatment of a patient with a life-threatening birth defect.
Aarti Home, India – This charity provides a home and training for girls who were abandoned shortly after birth and the club donated £1,000 towards the cost of uniforms made by local mothers co-operatve.
Overseas Aid for the Kids of Sierra Leone – OAKS is a local charity providing extensive support to a school in Bo, Sierra Leone and the club has donated £1,000 towards the development of a medical facility at the school.
PolioPlus -Each year the club provides financial support for PolioPlus, Rotary International’s global polio eradication programme (see website at http://www.endpolio.org)
