What is Rotary?
Rotary is a worldwide charitable organisation pof clubs for men and women who volunteer their efforts to raise funds to help causes locally, nationally and internationally. Rotary was founded in Chicago, USA in 1905 and now has over a million members.
About us.
One of 6 clubs in the City of Brighton and Hove, ours is the only breakfast club. We meet at Hangleton Manor, Hove for breakfast every Tuesday morning at 7.30am for an hour apart from the fourth Tuesday of the month when we hold a dinner meeting at 7.30 pm. We invite an eclectic mix of speakers from the worlds of business, entertainment, charities, and sport.
Each year the club President nominates main charities to support, either financially or the giving of our time. Additionally, we help and contribute to a variety of other projects throughout the year.
What we do
To illustrate our various means of supporting our charities:
Fundraising
. Easter egg hunts
. Halloween ghost trails
. Santa’s grotto
. Quiz nights
. Barbeques
. Marshalling sporting events
Community activities
. Reconstructing an outside play area for children with impaired sight
. Collecting food from supermarkets/bakeries and delivering the unexpired items to the homeless and rehabilitation centres
. Street collections for service men and women
. Providing outings for the elderly and disabled
International aid
. Rotary provides shelter boxes containing tents and basic supplies, in addition to water filtering straws and survival kits to disaster areas
. As an international organisation, Rotary supports The Bill Gates Foundation initiative to eradicate polio around the world
. Malaria has been greatly reduced with the issuing of mosquito nets by Rotary
. Wheelchairs are also purchased for the Wheelchair Foundation
. Spectacles are collected and recycled for overseas countries
Friendship and Fellowship
We arrange parties and activities that provide a welcome distraction from hectic business life. Rotary membership offers the chance to forge new friendships, locally and internationally
