This Committee is the group of Rotarians who are primarily concerned with all ‘people aspects’ of the Club: in terms of seeking members, inducting them, providing social and entertainment support to current members and probably, most importantly, support of past members and their spouses/partners/family. This Committee group also includes two specialist officers; one for child protection and one for health and safety and so it is also actively cross linked into fund raising activities.
It has been agreed that we should try and recover the situation on membership numbers which were badly hit by a number of personal circumstance changes. There is also an issue of a high average age of the current group of Rotarians and therefore particular effort and emphasis will be on trying to recruit younger members of both sexes. This group will work with the publicity group to try and ensure that appropriate literature is in the hands of all new members.
The sterling work in welfare for past members is handled sensitively by skilled Rotarians and this work is much appreciated and will therefore continue along current lines.
The Social Committee temporary convenor has agreed to take on the role permanently and will continue to strive to introduce new events in addition to the Burns supper, Christmas party and Ball. Any new ideas will be discussed before implementation to ensure there is adequate support for them. This approach was successfully used with Tenpin Bowling and a rail trip this past year.
The Golf/Sports Committee have plans for: The President’s Trophy and the Taymouth Castle Competition.
We still have the support of the health and safety officer who is well qualified in her role. The Rotarian who used to look after child protection is leaving the club due to business circumstances. To cover this post’s responsibilities there are a number of possible solutions to ensure child safety in all that we do as a club. These will be actively evaluated and an appropriate set of working arrangements put in place under the leadership of this committee and in consultation with Protection Officer, Alistair Ritchie PHF, The Rotary Club of Aberdeen, until we have a newly trained Rotarian in place.
This Membership Committee provides the glue of social cohesion in the club and depends on the encouragement and contribution of all club members which has always been freely given. We seek and will encourage all other members to fulfil the aims of making Callander and West Perthshire Rotary Club an enjoyable place to give "service above self".
