 The Committees key activities programme for Rotary year 2017/2018 is as follows.

      1. Worsley Cares – 29th & 30th September

               This is a fundraising event in aid of the homeless. It is a “Sleepover”  taking place

               overnight on the 29th September. All “Sleepers” will be provided with two cardboard
               boxes to provide a shelter plus a large plastic bag and asked to “rough” it for one
               night to raise money through sponsorship. All monies raised will be donated to
               charities that directly to Charities that directly support the homeless.
               Prime examples being Coffee4Craig & Barnabus.
               Last year’s event raised over £7,164.
              Our target this year is £10,000. More information see

2. Christmas Float – 29th & 30th Nov, 1st, 4th to 8th, 11th  to 15th , 18th to 21st December

                 The number of routes we will be covering this year is 17.
                  As last year we will be assisted 
on 3 of the routes by Walkden Rotary
                  (The 1
st, 15 th and 18 th December)

                 We anticipate that we will be assisted by collection teams from 8 community
– 2 local Churches, Scouts & Guides, , Kenyon Way Residents
                  Association, Child Flight, 
Salford Dadz, Salford Sea Cadets, Salford Imagination
                  Library, Salford Football Club

                 Subject to confirmation we also be collecting at Tescos Stores:
                                        Walkden Store    Sat / Sun  16th & 17th
                                       Farnworth Store  Tues/Wed  19th & 20th  

                 As last year the Collection Count Teams will be hosted by Club members and
Teams will be formed to take the cash to the bank.
On a date to be confirmed in late November we will be taking the Float to the
                   Springfield Primary
 School, Swinton as part of the School “kicking off” their
                   Christmas Celebrations.
 On the 18th December we will be taking the Float to the
                   Over Hulton Community Group 
evening carol service.
    .     3. Dragons Den - May 2018

                   Date to be confirmed. This will be the 6th time we have staged this event as a
                   means of distributing money collected from our annual Christmas Float.
                   The event will be advertised during February and March via the Club web site,
Media, local press, local radio, City of Salford Charity agencies, community
boards. Applicants will be narrowed down to 8/10 applicants to appear
                   before the 
“Dragons” Maximum award will be £500.  Venue will be the British
                   Legion Club Walkden. 
We anticipate that our “Chief Dragon” will again be the
                   Bishop of Bolton the
Rt Revd Mark Ashcroft.                       

            Rotary Bike Ride 2018 

                   Following the success of the event held in June we plan to repeat the event in 2018
                   The funds raised by the 2017 event were shared between “End Polio Now”                                   and 
Prostate Cancer UK. We await an announcement from RIBI as regards the
                   beneficiary for the 2017 event

            5. Other Club Community activities 

                     Trussell Trust Farnworth & Kearsley Foodbank 

                    Since April 2013 a number of members, and in some instances their wives,
                    volunteer on a weekly basis to help run the Foodbanks at The Well, Farnworth
                    and Cleggs Lane, Little Hulton. This includes helping with food collections at
                    Tescos when the need arises.

                    Past President Ian Thomas and his wife Valerie are similarly active at the
                    Atherton & Leigh Foodbank.

                   Little Hulton & Walkden Volunteer Drivers Scheme  

                      The scheme supports patients who are residents in the M28 and M38 postcode
                      areas  and are receiving cancer treatment at Salford Royal Hospital.
                      The support given is to transport patients to and from their hospital appointments
                      utilising volunteer drivers registered by Salford Royal Trust.There are 8 registered
                      drivers ie 3 Club members plus 1 member from the Walkden Club and
                    4 non-rotarians.
