OUR OBJECTIVES

The Object of Rotary was first formulated in 1910 and adapted through the years as Rotary's mission expanded. It provides a succinct definition of the organization's purpose as well as the club member's responsibilities.

Membership of Rotary provides the opportunity to use your time, talents, professional skills and energy to improve the lives of people in your local community..

And, in the process, you can enjoy the benefits of business networking, personal development, meeting new friends, hearing inspiring speakers, having a great deal of fun and experiencing that special sense of fulfillment that comes from achieving something really worthwhile.

One of the objects of Rotary is to maintain high ethical standards in business and professions.

This is epitomised by The Four-Way Test

The Four-Way Test, which was created in 1932 by a Rotarian when he was asked to take charge of a company that was facing bankruptcy. This test for employees to follow in their business and professional lives became the company guide for sales, production, advertising, and all relations with dealers and customers, and the survival of the company is credited to this simple philosophy. Adopted by Rotary in 1943 as a nonpartisan and nonsectarian ethical guide for Rotarians to use for their personal and professional relationships, the Four-Way Test has been translated into more than a hundred languages and published in thousands of ways.

It asks,

Of the things we think, say or do we should ask ourselves:

  1. Is it the TRUTH?
  1. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
  1. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
  1. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
