What does it mean to be a member of Rotary?
Rotary is an organisation of men and women who volunteer their time and talents to serve their communities at home and overseas. It is the largest humanitarian service organisation in Great Britain and Ireland for people who want to make a better world, and who are dedicated to providing friendly help to local and international communities. It is a networking organisation on an international scale
The world's Rotary clubs meet weekly and are non-political, non-religious, and open to all cultures, races, and creeds. Each Rotary Club operates autonomously within the Rotary family and selects causes it wishes to support each year. Rotarians are welcome to visit any Club anywhere in the world and Clubs work together linking countries. Rotary supports programmes for youth, educational opportunities and international exchanges for students, teachers, and other professionals, and vocational and career development.
Above all we aim to have fun !

Bigger and Better - Four New Members!
The club was delighted to induct two new members on 14th August 2012.
Cathy has made good use of her computer skills, setting up websites for two organisations in Northwood and helping many neighbours and friends get to grips with the new computer era. She's also on the committee of the Anglo-Korean Society but would like to be involved in a more local organisation - hence her interest in Pinner Rotary. She feels that Rotary is an organisation with a global influence which is rooted in local communities and she's looking forward to joining a group of friendly individuals who have fun whilst giving back to the community.
Initially, Laurence was employed in the music industry working for a record label and started working in finance which he developed an interest in it. After a number of years he moved to the finance department of a company that provides the analysis, data and news in the clean energy and carbon markets. He then moved to the Financial Services Authority before joining his latest employer in December 2011 who are a London-based asset management company.
Laurence is a qualified Accounting Technician and Chartered Certified Accountant. His interests include language, the classical world, history, philosophy, crime thrillers, swimming and generally being pretentious. He says about joining Pinner Rotary: “I want to change the world (for the better) and I will bring the enthusiasm needed to do so to Pinner Rotary and hopefully I’ll get the opportunity to laugh a lot while doing so!”
The club was delighted to induct two new members on 21st August 2012 Rona and David Baker who are our second married couple.
Rona and David have four children and seven grandchildren. David worked in the City for many years in the Investment management industry where he was a Chartered Secretary, an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute and a Member of the Society of Investment Analysts. Since retiring, his time is now taken up with family, particularly looking after grandchildren and doing some charity work including being involved in work in a school and orphanage in Kenya run by the Salvation Army. David's hobbies include music (he plays in a brass band) golf and walking.
Rona is a schoolteacher by trade and was for 18 years a Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator in a mainstream secondary school and subsequently moved on to work for Hillingdon Local Authority as a Special Needs Officer. When she retired Rona ran a charity shop for the Salvation Army for two years and she is now involved in education through work as a school governor and a panel member for various appeals. Her interests are music, reading and walking in the hills. She is also involved with charity work in Kenya and China through the Bible Society and the Salvation Army. They also support two children through Compassion.
Welcome to the Rotary Club of Pinner, Cathy, Rona, David and Laurence.
