Anti Drug Poster

Pwllheli Rotary Club used a District Simplified Grant to "Make a Difference"

The DSG grant for CIP(Pwllheli Youth Initiative) was spent on helping young people to develop a poster or leaflet which would convey the negative effects of alcohol and drugs.

In consulting with the young members of CIP we were informed that the leaflets currently available were not successful in attracting young people to read them, and the information available is not age relevant to young people. It became apparent that messages within the available pamphlets telling young people what to do and not to do, were disregarded as young people want to have the opportunity to make their own decisions.

From this, the group worked on the poster being

Colourful

Based on a humorous cartoonish character (young peoples idea)

The poster being informative but also asking questions allowing the individual to consider the impact on their own lives.

Two volunteers worked with young people, which included gathering information on the negative effects of drugs and alcohol which allowed the young people involved to informally educate themselves, and be openly involved in discussions around the subject.

The posters have been distributed round:

Dwyfor e.g. leisure centres, GP surgeries

Health board

Police
