What do we do?

COMMUNITY, VOCATIONAL AND FUTURE GENERATIONS COMMITTEE

The Community, Vocational and Future Generations Committee attempt to provide financial help to requests from local charities and good causes, as well as helping and supporting individuals and groups in the Broadstairs area by organising events.

To enable Broadstairs Rotary Club to help in the local community our main fundraising efforts in 2011 have been the Christmas Sleigh static and street collections, the Tesco Metro Trolley Dash, and collections at the Broadstairs Firework displays on the seafront. The members of the Club are extremely grateful to everybody who contributed to these fundraising events.
During the Rotary Year July 2011 / June 2012 we have been able to make donations amongst others to:
  • Oasis
  • Hi Kent – Action for Hearing Loss
  • The Gap Project
  • Porchlight
  • Thanet Admiral Nurses for dementia sufferers
  • Thanet Disabled Riding School
  • A communication computer for a local cerebral palsy sufferer and for respite care at Vitalise

In addition members have helped with collections at Tesco Extra for:
Picture needed!!
  • The Kent Air Ambulance,
  • Q.E.Q.M. League of Friends,
  • MacMillan Cancer Support.
  • Marie Curie Cancer Support

In addition we regularly help with other collections in the Broadstairs area.
Members also helped at the Broadstairs Food Festival by selling raffle tickets helping to cover the cost of staging the Food Festival.

Also during the Rotary Club year in 2011-12 the Broadstairs Rotary Club is supporting/organising:

  • Eight young carers to have some respite care with a weekend sailing on the ‘Cambria’ a recently restored Thames sailing barge
  • A Winter Tea Party for elderly people in St Peters and Broadstairs
  • ‘Kids Out’ an Annual Rotary event. We will take up to 800 children, plus carers or parents to a circus during the summer.
  • Mock Interviews at a Broadstairs Secondary School. Members of the Club will provide interview experience and advice to pupils who request it.
  • Some children, with special educational needs, from local schools, and some young carers to attend a Pantomime.
