Africa Inspires

The Club is excited to be involved in the Africa Inspires project which aims to establish the provision of sport in schools in the Ugandan capital, Kampala, and supply sustainable means of providing pupils with clean drinking water. This project is coordinated in Coventry by the Coventry Sports Foundation as part of 2012 preparations.

We have been supporting Lyng Hall School's efforts, initally to send out two Student Ambassadors, Rebecca and Dionne with two teachers in July. For a week they helped Kiddawalime School develop sports activities for the first time, and with four other Kampala schools took part in a 2012-inspired sports tournament for 1,200 pupils to put their new skills to the test. For Rebecca and Dionne and their teachers this was a truly unforgettable trip, and which has changed the perceptions of pupils and teachers alike.

The Club has supported Rebecca and Dionne through our direct funding and at the Donkey derby, and we will continue to assist their efforts. Fundraising is now starting for the next stage of the project which aims to raise £4,000 for a water harvesting installation at Kiddawalime school to be constructed by July 2012. The students and their teacher, Drew Cook, will visit the Club over the coming months to report on progress.
