Jim Adamson,'one of our own', gave a talk on the Childrens Panel. Jim as well as being an engineer and a safety office in his past has also been a member of the Childrens Panel. He first joined the Paisley panel but is now a member of Inverclyde. The panel take referrals from the procurator fiscal and the courts. The panel make recommendations to social services on a plan for each referral. These are reviewed to ensure that the panel's wishes are carried out. The child involved has to agree the referral and the plan. Parents or gaurdians are involved at all stages. Sometimes a 'parenting order' is made as it is obvious that poor parenting is the root of the problem. The work carried out by Jim and other panel members is very challenging and an important tool in helping children to become responsible members of society.
