Mrs Kathleen Frew was our speaker this evening and she addressed us on the subject of Chest, Heart and Stroke Scotland (CHSS), a charity providing help and support in the community for victims, their families and their carers, who have suffered heart attacks or strokes. She spoke passionately and informatively on a subject which is extremely important as it can affect anyone one of us, young or old. She was accompanied by Mr Brian Frew who explained the F.A.S.T. campaign, a Government initiative to make th public more aware of the immediate symptoms of stroke and the actions to take if you suspect someone is experiencing a stroke. Such is the importance of this knowledge that it is worth reiterating it here:
F ace: Can they smile? Does one side droop?
A rm: Can they lift both arms? Is one weak?
S peech: Is their speech slurred or muddled?
T ime: To call 999!
