The Rotary Club of Cowes has directly or assisted the following organisations and individuals :

 

 

   

Some Cowes Rotary Club activities for year ending 30th June 2012.

 

YOUTH AND YOUNG PEOPLE

Funding and participation in the annual all-Island Rotary KidsOut and KidsHear outings for children    with special needs.

Assistance with organisation of all-Island Rotary Schools Youth Speaks competition including donation to help local school attend mainland finals.

Assisted local schools with Mock Interviews.

Donation to a local primary school to allow two children to attend a residential course.

Donation to Cowes Sea Cadets from President’s Charity fund.

Continuing guidance and financial support to local young people to help them consolidate their Interact club including a matching grant to their chosen charity.

Continuing financial support for IW Youth Concert Band to facilitate travel costs etc.

Donation to local Young Enterprise group to help with attendance at Trade Fair etc.

Practical help to Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust for young people.

Donation to Dream Holidays for physically handicapped young people.

Provision of four scooters for St. George’s School

Financial support for Freestyle Dance School for young people in East Cowes.

Donation to Jubilee Sailing Trust from SailOver lunch and raffles.

Financial assistance to a naval student to enable him to attend an expedition in Norway.

 

GENERAL COMMUNITY

On-going support, financial and practical, to Earl Mountbatten Hospice including car parking at Barton Manor events, marshalling at Walk the Wight and others.

Support for and participation in Cowes Carnivals.

Profile and fund raising balloon race on Cowes Parade during Cowes Week.

Donation to help John’s Club run their mini-bus.

Donation to St. Mary’s Church from President’s Charity.

Coach trip including lunch and entertainment for local Senior Citizens.

Organised a Christmas concert with Cowes Concert Band at St. Mary’s Church.

Collected with Santa’s float for charity fund at various locations prior to Christmas.

Continued link and financial help to Association of Sail Training Organisations.

Supported local I W FoodBank for the needy with regular donations of groceries, etc.

Donation to Age UK to help them establish a presence in Cowes.

Donation to Mary’s Meals

 

INTERNATIONAL

Hosted members from our twinned club of La Rochelle for a long weekend visit.

In conjunction with Ventnor Rotary Club made a donation to provide water to a Romanian School.

A profile and fund raising event at Cowes Co-op in conjunction with Interactors Club which resulted in funds for Club’s charity account and a donation to  Sightsavers, the Interactors charity.

Provision of Aquaboxes for use in disaster stricken areas.

Donation to New Zealand earthquake relief fund.

With other Island organisations and local schools, took part in the annual shoebox appeal, sending over 3,000 boxes of children’s toys etc to deprived areas of the world.

With the co-operation of Island Waste Services continued the co-ordination of collection of surplus tools and equipment for ‘Tools for Self Reliance’ project for third world countries.

Significant donation to Rotary International’s Polio Plus scheme to eradicate Polio worldwide.
