On 24th February - a very successful concert in Cochran Hall Kirkcudbright - raising over £1300

Thanks for Life Variety Concert.

The Rotary Club of Kirkcudbright hosted a concert on the 24th of February in the Cochran Hall. The sell out venue was supported by the senior school pupils who worked with Rotary on what had been a busy “Rotary Week”, celebrating the 107th Birthday of Rotary International.  Having visited the local primary schools, to follow up the Polio information days and celebrating Shrove Tuesday with the help of Innerwheel, the fun of the variety concert rounded off the week in style.

The fabulous Taste of Country interspaced with choirs and musical groups from all the local primary schools brought ringing applause from the audience. Kate Picken the “impresario” who masterminded the programme played her part as a member of Taste of Country. The music from shows to down right comical turns underlined the professionalism of this talented group.

During the week literally hundreds of children had made Purple Hats at their schools and the finalists displayed their hats during the concert, the overall winner being Sabrina Ross from Twynholm primary school.  The idea of the Purple Hats ties into the dyed pinkies of the immunised children during the Polio campaign. The monies raised from the concert will go to End Polio Now, the new kidney unit at Kirkcudright hospital and Kidney Kids Scotland. The Rotary Club of Kirkcudbright wish to acknowledge the support of their local community, the primary schools, Kirkcudbright Academy and the work of Kate Picken.
