At today’s Regional Final of Rotary’s Young Musician competition, the winner of the vocal section was Louisa Haggerty who is sponsored by the Rotary Club of Amersham.

Louisa performed Non So Piu by Mozart, Les Berceaux by Faure and Et Exultavit from Bach’s Magnificat.

The event was held in the splendid hall of Bancroft School, Woodford Green.   Young competitors from Districts 1080, 1130, 1240 and 1260 took part, and the audience of Rotarians, families and supporters had a very enjoyable afternoon with a widely varied programme.

We heard instrumentalists playing the piano, euphonium, saxophone and oboe. In the vocal section, there were show songs, jazz songs, classical arias, and two most interesting folk songs in the Tamil language accompanied by traditional instruments.

The winner in the instrumental section was Robert Moseley (sponsored by the Rotary Club of Romford) on euphonium playing My Love is like a Red, Red Rose and Grandfather’s Clock. Runner-up was Hannah Slavin (sponsored by the Rotary Club of Wolverton and Stony Stratford) on piano who performed Etude Opus 10 by Chopin and Rhapsody No. 2 in G Minor by Brahms.

Runner up in the vocal section was Sian Kelly (sponsored by the Rotary Club of  Putney) who accompanied herself on guitar singing The One That Got Away, and then finished with Can’t help Loving’ that Man of Mine by Jerome Kern.

The two winners now go on to the RIBI National Final in Bournemouth on 13th April.
