Rotary GB&I Committees and Resource Groups News

title-bottom

Welcome to the March 2012 Service News, linking you to news, resources and information from all of Rotary GB&I's Service Committees and Resource Groups. It is emailed, monthly, to all 30,000+ members whose email address is on the Rotary GB&I database. If Club Secretaries are aware of members with an email address, but not on the RI database, please forward to them (and, ideally, add their details to the database.)

Service News editions are archived on the Rotary GB&I website, in the Updates area, and members are no longer required to login to gain access.

If you cannot read this email properly (due to your email settings), click on this link and a web page showing the email as intended will open.

Marketing, PR & Communications

If your club members would like to learn more about how to use Social Media to promote the club and its activities, why not enlist the help of the members of your local Rotaract or Interact club, as a Rotary club in Texas has done.

You can find a great example of how effective social media can be in turning a successful local event into something much bigger by reading more about the Rotary Club of Grantham's Global Swimarathon.

A way in which a club can reinvigorate itself and increase its membership can be found on page 2 of the March edition of the Rotary Leader. It involves ensuring that the membership diversity of the club reflects the community it serves.

RI has just announced the appointment of David Jensen to be its new Chief Communications Officer.

If you missed any of the splendid coverage carried by the BBC about Rotary and the recent polio NID in India, or you just want to watch it again, please visit the special page on the Rotary GB&I website to view the videos etc.

Rotary GB&I Conference

The final countdown begins in earnest as the final touches are made to what promises to be a fabulous Rotary GB&I Conference in Bournemouth, 13th-15th April .

The speakers list reads like a celebrity who's who and we're definitely putting the 'fun' into functions. So please take this opportunity to register.

The Stroke Association's Know Your Blood Pressure Day (aka Rotary Stroke Awareness Day) is 28th April 2012 or at any time to suit your club or community. More than 30,000 people attended the event last year and more than 4,000 people were diagnosed with high blood pressure.

Around 16 million people in the UK have high blood pressure, and a third is unaware of this. At least 40% of strokes could be prevented if people checked their blood pressure and took steps to control it.

Rotary Spring Clean is really picking up. Click to see what Clubs are doing here or on Facebook.

Earth Hour: Hundreds of millions across the planet cannot be wrong! All you are being asked to do is lift a finger at 8.30pm 31 March... and turn off your lights for one hour. WWF's Earth Hour is a simple idea that's quickly turned into a global phenomenon. It's about appreciating the brilliant world we all share - and how we need to protect it. Not just for an hour a year, but every day.

March is Rotary Literacy Month. If you can't read or write, it is virtually impossible to acquire the skills to overcome poverty and support your family, let alone progress in modern society. You and your Club can help by buying a Literacy Box.

Visit us at Bournemouth Rotary GB&I Conference. Please visit the Community Service Stand at Conference, and let us know your Community Service Tips and Tricks that may benefit other Rotarians and the communities we serve.

In the meantime, please see the restructured and updated Rotary GB&I Community Service web pages.

Rotaractors and Rotarians are invited to join the fun at the 2012 Banbury Rally August Weekend. Find all the details and Booking Form here. (See the documents at the bottom of the page). It would be appreciated if Rotary Clubs passed this early notice to their Rotaractors.

Some great news - another new Rotaract club - the Imperial College London! Congratulations to the joint sponsoring Rotary Clubs of Kensington and The City & Shoreditch (D1130).

Rotaractors move in the best of circles. Here, a group of the Manchester International Rotaract Club meets with RI President Banerjee at the Centenary Dinner of the Rotary Club of Manchester.

Other Rotaract Clubs too, like the Rotaract Club of Nottingham (see document at base of page), are not behind in getting their message across in the local press.
