Fishing Competition 2012

PP Ian Draper and Pat Heath decided to resurrect the District Fishing Competition and set about contacting all clubs in the district to take part.

On the day, Sunday 22nd April, there were 27 people fishing on Deal pier from, Deal and the Inner Wheel Club of Deal, Rye and Winchelsea, Weald of Kent, Danson, Dover and Tunbridge Wells.

The competition was sponsored by Humax who provided cash for prize money and advertising plus three of their PVR machines, one for the main prize, one for the raffle (won by Rtn John Utting) and a further machine which was donated o the Dover club to be raffled at their forthcoming beer festival on 5/6 May.

Despite four hours of fishing the catch was negligible with only four relatively small fish being landed plus a whelk by Gillian Heath and an ugly, and poisonous, sea scorpion (weever) fish by Pam Misson which was not listed as one of those eligible.

The remaining three fish were all landed by individuals meaning that they were guaranteed a prize each awarded at a lunch in Dunkerley's restaurant after the conclusion of fishing.

The aim of the event was to raise money for one of District Governor Lyn Mitchell's preferred charities, the Cambria Barge which exists for a similar purpose as the New Petra that our own club supports. The DG was given a cheque of
