Our 2012 International Food Evening
Rotary Club of Midhurst & Petworth’s
Bavarian Bravado
Ooommmmpaaaah! If you were passing Lodsworth village hall on Saturday you would be forgiven for thinking you were in Munich for the Oktoberfest.
For the annual International Food evening this year Rotarians and Inner Wheel members cooked up a feast. Bavarian Meat loaf with pickles was followed by Goulash with red cabbage and potatoes and of course the dessert was Apple Strudel and cream with coffee rounding off a well received meal.
Many people dressed In keeping with the theme of the evening including the band, Bayleaf Brass . The quintet of young award winning musicians played throughout the evening and in true Oktoberfest style regularly interspersed their programme with: Ein Prosit, Ein Prosit, Der Gemütlichkeit (a toast, a toast, Gemütlichkeit – an untranslatable word – perhaps wellbeing). Each time this was played everybody in the hall had to raise glasses and of course sing.
The object of the evening was to have fun while at the same time raising funds for charity. A profit of £1600 with be shared by Rotary President Paul Ryan’s chosen charities, The Stroke Association and Blind Veterans UK.
Grateful thanks go to Alistair Gibson for organising the band who took so much trouble in putting together a truly enjoyable programme. Alastair whose home is in Easebourne is studying trombone and conducting at the Royal Northern College of Music. We look forward to hearing the band play in Midhurst once again when they take part in the Madhurst festivities.
