The Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) is a fantastic project run by our district in the Abernethy Ardeonaig Centre every year. Clubs within the district send aprox. 60 youngsters between the ages of 14-17 to the centre to develop their leadership skills. They are divided in to teams who are mentored by a Rotarian, and I've had the privilege for the last four years to be one of those lucky people, and will be returning again this year. For the first time we are sending two candidates, one boy and one girl, which is a great achievement.
The beauty of this day is that you will get a chance to see the magic that happens on the course, with the opportunity to see the boys camp just as they are leaving, filled with enthusiasm and confidence; and the girls feeling very shy, lots of make-up and trying to make a good impression on the boys! You will be able to hear first hand from the candidates what a different the programme has made to them, as well as get to have a go on some of the activities yourself! It's a great day, and a brilliant opportunity to see what we are investing our money in and I'm sure those that have been (Diane and Scott if I re-call?) would encourage coming along to see what it's all about.
