Aims and what we do.

The Rotary Club of Bradford is a member of the worldwide Rotary International organisation. We welcome members of both sexes and any religious or cultural background. We are non-political and  our business and our meetings are open to public viewing.

Rotary International has the motto "Service Above Self".  For our part we interpret this to mean that we do our best to provide service to our own community, in this case the City of Bradford, and also to the worldwide community.  Elsewhere on this site you can read about the service we have been delivering in the recent past.

We cannot always meet the variety of needs through direct service ourselves and so, especially for international projects, we do give financial assistance.  But we are not primarily a money raising organisation. Where we do raise money we try to target those funds to benefit the widest number of people and so it is our policy to not support individual requests, no matter how deserving they may be. (See some of our recent work by looking at the Club Achievements button for the last year.)

When we do raise money from the public, such as at supermarket collections, we guarantee that every penny we raise goes to charity because we, the Club Members, pay for the administration of the Club.

In order to give service or raise money for projects we have to act as a team, and to this end we believe, as does Rotary International, that regular meetings and good fun and fellowship is the best way to build teams who can be effective.  We meet weekly, every Friday for lunch, and to be part of the "team" we need to attend as often as we reasonably can. The meetings are relatively informal and usually include an outside speaker. We start at 1240 and finish by 1400.

The overall object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service.

Within that overall Aim there are four objectives:-

*         The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service

*         Maintaining high ethical standards in ones working and personal life

*         Bringing the ideal of service into each Rotarians life

*         The enhancement through service of international understanding, goodwill and peace.

At present we are a Club of 40 and we would love to expand our service by having some new folk join us. If you are interested see our section on "join us as a member", or, contact us via the "Contact Us" button on the website which leads you to an email link.
