The Marketing, PR and Communications Committee is the smallest, having only Jim Matthews and Steve Williams as members.
It is tasked to promote the club.
Its first project was to hand out marketing leaflets about Rotary In Britain and Ireland (the A3 newspaper provided free to clubs in chosen districts) and in Oadby (the A4 trifold which the club paid for in Autumn 2011) before and after the Olympic torch passed through the centre of Oadby on Monday, July 2.
Having sought advice from Oadby and Wigston Borough Council and Leicestershire County Council, and having obtained permission from Lloyds TSB, Jim set up a 'stall' on the corner of Chestnut Avenue and The Parade about 90 minutes before the torchbearer was due.
As the minutes ticked (slowly) by, excitement rose and there was little interest from the gathering crowd in our promotional material. But, when the torch had passed and the crowds dispersed, Jim was able to give out 20 copies of each of the documents.
Whilst there, Jim saw members Peter Bliss and Lindsay Hubbard as well as Olive Phipps and Helen Bond, who are diners at the Age Concern luncheon club and members of the Rotary ElFs group.
