The "Raft Race" at Coronation Park Boating Lake

Raft Race 2012

Members of The Rotary Club of Helston-Lizard entertained the crowds by taking first and second places in the "Raft Race" held at Helston Boating Lake on Saturday 21 July, as part of the Coronation Park Centenary Celebrations.  Rumour quickly spread that the two teams were fortunate to achieve their "victory" only due to the absence of any other competitors.  Each team of four used one of the Boating Lake's well-known pedalos to complete the challenging circuit "around the island and back".  One member of the team, who refused to give his name, was reported as saying "It was a tough race, tougher than you think" as he made his excuses and left (for the bar!). The weather was beautiful and everyone enjoyed a fun-filled afternoon.

WINNERS AND LOSERS

Members of the two Rotary teams, were (L-R) Chris Dale (Organiser), Alan Nicholls, Hjalmar Wara,
David Corbridge, David Ford, Steve Ford, Paul Knight and Rodd Smith.

The cash prize will be added to the Rotary Club's funds and used to support local and other Rotary charities.
