The Rotary Club of South Molton has recently been presented with s Silver Award from the ShelterBox organisation for raising money for 50 Shelterboxes (£30,000).  The award is really to the people of South Molton and surrounding areas for their wonderful generousity.

ShelterBox was founded by Tom Henderson OBE, a Rotarian and former Royal Navy Search and Rescue Diver.  The first consignment of 143 boxes was sent to earthquake victims in the Indian state of Gujarat in January 2001.  The total number of boxes deployed now exceeds 110,000, this being in response to 200 disasters and areas of conflict.

Each ShelterBox is tailored to a disaster but typically contains a tent for an extended family together with blankets, water storage and filtration equipment, cooking utensils, a stove, a basic tool kit, a childrens activity pack and other vital items.
