In a notable change to normal Rotary business Rotarian Roger Atkins organised a 9-hole putting competiton to kick off the meeting on 13 August. This was followed by our club meeting with everyone chatting and having fun over a great summer barbecue.
Twenty nine 'would be' putters tackled the tricky Sandford Springs green on a damp evening, fortunately the weather eased just in time for our outing. Ladies were under strict instruction not to wear high heels!
The grass of the Sandford Springs Golf Club was like a billiard table amazingly short and flat, albeit with some annoying slopes that neatly dragged the ball away from your intended line. Nonetheless the best result came from one of our most recent recruits to Rotary, Colin Stone who succeeded in going round the nine holes, getting two holes-in-one on the way and ending with an all up total score of just eighteen strokes. He walked off with the first prize of a bottle of champagne.
David Lee was a close runner up with nineteen putts and Lynden Jones walked off with the botttle of J2O having come in as the twenty eighth runner up!
