Becoming a Rotarian

Rotary International began with just 4 founding members at the first ever meeting in Chicago during 1905, following an idea by Paul Harris to build an organisation of business and professional leaders to provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world.

Despite what some people might think, Rotary International is not an exclusive club for middle-aged male professionals! It is an international organisation with some 34,000 Rotary Clubs worldwide with over 1.2 million women and men Rotarians of all ages, occupations and cultures. Most Rotary Clubs have a banner that reflects the individual character of their own club and region. It's a tradition for a Rotarian visiting another club, to extend greetings from the President of his or her home club and to offer best wishes, thus reflecting a bond of friendship between the two clubs.

Why join us? Marlborough and District Rotary Club is a membership based charitable organisation open to men and women. Like other Rotary Clubs across the world, it relies heavily upon the strength of character, honesty and integrity of its members in order to succeed in its goals. Joining Marlborough and District Rotary Club and becoming a Rotarian, means you will become part of a hugely successful team of fellow like-minded people.

You will easily make new friends, as well as worthwhile business contacts and associates. You will be opening up a new world around you whilst having fun along the way and making a positive contribution to improving the lives of fellow human beings. It means you are a person who is willing at times to put 'Service above Self' offering a little of your spare free time to lend a hand for the charitable work we do to help others less fortunate or less able to help themselves. What's Rotary able to offer you? By becoming 'a cog in the wheel' of Marlborough and District Rotary Club, you will have many opportunities to become involved in our projects and social events. Moreover, you can be sure of a warm welcome from other Rotarians wherever you travel across the world and visit other clubs. We only ever expect you to do what you can, whether that is your spare time, your ideas or whatever other contribution you choose to make to achieve the club's goal. Everyone's support is appreciated. We understand that you may not be able to commit to all of our projects or indeed attend every single weekly meeting, but whenever possible regular attendance and the support of its members is required in order for Marlborough and District Rotary Club to continue its ongoing success story.

If becoming a Rotarian and member of Marlborough and District Rotary Club interests you, make an enquiry to visit one of our meetings by contacting our secretary, Peter Waine, through the link below. We will be delighted to meet you and assure you of a warm welcome.
