25 May 2013 Duck Race

Sat, May 25th 2013 at 12:00 am - 12:00 am

The annual Duck Race and Teas on the Green at the Dunblane Fling was held on Saturday 25 May.

The crowds were out in force on Saturday 25 May for the annual Rotary Duck Race as part of the Dunblane Fling which celebrated its 20th birthday this year. Well over a thousand locals and visitors converged on Dunblane to join in the fun in one of the best and sunniest days of the year so far.
After the Rotary Coffee Morning in the Cathedral Hall, the traditional parade down the High Street to the Drying Green was led by the Alloa Bowmar Pipe Band, accompanied by a procession of entertainers and classic cars.
The Fling by the River was opened by local lass, Jennifer Harrild of STV News at Six fame who thanked all the sponsors and organisers for putting on such a great event.
The Rotary Duck Race was launched at the Faery Bridge at 1pm and was watched by hundreds of spectators cheering on their ducks.
Entertainment in the 2 marquees included:  singing, dance groups and cookery demonstrations, while stalls around the Green had displays from local groups and businesses. The Rotary crepe tent was busy all day, as was the ice cream van and the bouncy castle. For the less energetic, the Yurt tent had storytelling, how to write a ghost story and Stirling Library Bookbug sessions.
Local traders had supported the event by offering special discounts and providing prizes for raffles and the Fling tombola stall.
All in all, it has been a great community event and the rotary Club and Fling committee are looking forward to an even bigger party next year when the Fling celebrates its 21st birthday.
