Callington Rotary Club were instrumental in creating the first "Memory Cafe" within the Callington district.
Callington Memory Cafe has now been running for over two years and was very proud to
receive the Callington Citizen of the Year Award 2014. ! !
The Cafe, which is run by volunteers and supported by the Rotary Club of Callington,!
operates on a drop-in basis. It offers a relaxed, friendly and welcoming atmosphere where
people affected by dementia and memory loss, and their carers, can get together regularly
to support each other and develop friendships with others facing problems similar to
themselves. ! !
At the fortnightly meetings, information and practical tips about coping with memory loss
are available. There is the opportunity to take part in stimulating, reminiscence based
activities, games, quizzes and discussions, or visitors can just enjoy socialising with cake
and refreshments. The informal setting aims to provide emotional support and help in
reducing the pressures and sense of isolation that is often felt by people with dementia
and their carers and families.! !
Open to visitors on alternate Saturdays, the Memory Cafe is based in the Council
Chambers of Callington Town Hall between 2pm and 4pm. We are always ready to
welcome new members so please feel free to drop in or alternatively contact:
