SHOE BOXES 2012

Wed, Nov 7th 2012 at 12:00 am - 2:00 am

WITH HELP FROM ROTARIANS, FAMILIES, SCHOOLS AND OTHERS WE MANAGED TO SEND 372 SHOE BOXES FILLED WITH PRESENTS TO DEPRIVED CHILDREN ABROAD.(FULL REPORT BELOW PICTURES)

The International Committee's main project has again been the District Shoebox Appeal.   We collected, inspected, sorted, packed and delivered 372 Christmas shoeboxes this year, slightly up on the 2011 number.   Brockenhurst Primary and Tiptoe Primary supported us for the first time, whilst Totton College, Foxhills Infants and Abbotswood Junior repeated past contributions.   We are indebted to all these schools, pupils and parents - and the many other friends, contacts, members and wives - for the generosity of their time and cost in helping to bring some joy to disadvantaged children in some less privileged areas of the world - therefore a big thank you and appreciation goes to them from Rotary.

Within the Club, special mention goes to President Robin for visiting each school for handover with Ray Dawes on camera, Alan Blair for his innumerable collection of boxes from Business Partners and other friends, Beryl and Jim Knight similarly from their Bridge Club friends, and the sterling members and wives who helped inspect and pack the boxes at David and Helen Matcham's garage and in other ways.   Meachers Global Logistics kindly donated the transport to The District warehouse for the boxes onward route to Albania, Montenegro, Tanzania, Moldova and the Philippines.   All-in-all, an intensive activity with a very satisfying end result.
