Our speaker on November 27th was David Shiel, the Countryside Officer for the Clwydian Range and Dee Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).
This is an area of 390 square kilometres stretching from Prestatyn in the north to Cynwyd / Llangollen (Dee Valley) in the south and including all the Clwydian Hills, the Dee Valley, World's End, Chirk Castle, Pontcysyllte Aqueduct (World Heritage Site), Valle Crucis,The Horseshoe Pass (Bwlch yr Oer Nant), Eglwyseg Escarpment and the North Berwyn Mountains. This is a landscape protected by government legislation.
David described the AONB
The work of the AONB is to to work with the people of the area to protect the biodiversity of the landscape and to develop a tourist strategy that allows for the local people to continue with their work in the area and to provide a pleasant environment for all people to enjoy.
