Schools Charity Concert 2017
SCHOOLS CHARITY CONCERT
An Extravaganza of music and musical Talent.
The concert was held this year on Thursday March 16 at GLive. This was the fifth time the concert has been held and again showed all who attended what an amazing amount of musical talent there is in this area and in particular at the three schools that took part.
Those taking part were the Duke of Kent, George Abbot and Priors Field and, with the professional help of stage manager Judy, we ended up with an absolutely superb event. Each school played for over thirty minutes and produced a wide mix of music from excerpts from west end shows,We Will Rock You, Oliver and Matilda to classical guitar, piano, and harp solos plus several choirs, Jazz/Swing/Rock etc. and much, much more. We shouldn't really pick out anyone specific from such a superb collection of performances but Oscar's rendition of the Neil Young classic Heart of Gold will remain in the memory for a long time.
There was a grand finale with all some 350+ performers singing the George Michael classic Freedom 90 on stage, producing something to remember!
As in previous years the feedback from the large audiences was extremely good with everyone being delighted by the excellence of the performances and leaving with a smile on their face.
Many thanks are due not only to the hard working and talented students but also to the three Directors of Music from the schools plus, of course, the stage manager and her team, and not forgetting the Glive staff. We were also privileged to have the free services of the excellent photographer Phill Griffith who produced some fantastic photos for the schools.
A final and heart felt thanks to Rotarian Paul Marsh and his committe for producing another great event which will have the added advantage of producing funds for the schools' music departments and also for Rotary Charities.
We look forward to welcoming everyone back for the sixth year next March.
