The Rotary Club of Holmnes Chapel sent a volunteer to support the NID in India over the weekend February23-26

Here is her report of the trip:

 

The polio vaccination campaign was a great success and very interesting.   I am sending some photos so that you can see. I met up in Delhi with the other Rotary volunteers and we had an introductory presentation to tell us all about the polio situation currently in India and all about the vaccination programme.
 
We stayed the night in the hotel in Delhi and the following day travelled to a town in the state of Uttar Pradesh. This state is one of the poorest in India and has had a high "polio burden" due to various reasons. We were greeted by a local Rotary volunteer, Mr. Sharma, who had arranged the whole programme for us He was very organised and conducted the next two days with military precision. We were split up into teams and our team went off to a really remote village in the middle of nowhere. The villagers survive from growing rice, cows for milk and not much else from the looks of it. The village was quite large and there were three vaccination booths set up.
 
We saw yellow Rotary banners in several places advertising the vaccination day. We also saw loads of posters in every town we passed on the way. It was a
