A talk by Mr Graeme Smith

This evening, we had a fascinating talk from Mr Graeme Smith on the history of The Theatre Royal in Glasgow.  First opened in 1867, it remained one of the most popular theatres in the City until it had to close in 1957 due to competition from the new media of radio, cinema and television.  Ironically, it then became the home of the commercial TV channel, Scottish Television until 1975 when new, purpose built TV studios were completed.  The building then became the home of Scottish Opera and in the 1980s Scottish Ballet shared occupancy.  After his talk, which was full of interesting facts and anecdotes with names of celebrities conjured from the past, Graeme regailed us with a song!
