Lowri Smith was the inspiration behind the establishment of the Foodbank after hearing a remark from a person who did not have enough food. She gave us a talk on the progress of the Foodbank in Denbigh.
The Denbigh Foodbank is a franchise of the Trussell Trust and in order to buy in to their business plan a fee is charged and this was donated by the Freeman Evans Trust of Denbigh.
All the food is donated by the public and must be non-perishable and in-date. It is weighed into the store in Capel Mawr and is weighed out to clients who must have vouchers to access the food parcels and these are given by a number of agencies such as doctors and social services. The parcels are given to clients on no more than three occasions although there is some flexibility in the case of people having financial problems if benefits are a long time before they are sorted out.
The Foodbank was opened on October 5th and since then 850 people have had food from the bank.
