'Scottish Owl Centre' talk and demonstration, Rod Angus

Wed, Jul 10th 2013 at 12:00 am - 12:00 am

The meeting report gives links to the Owl Centre website and to a video featuring Tomsk, the owl

Our speaker this week was Rod Angus who owns and runs the Scottish Owl Centre at Polkemmet Country Park in West Lothian. He described the background to the centre whereby it was originally established in Cambeltown in Kintyre. For practical reasons he relocated to the present site in Easter 2012. Rod now runs the centre with his wife and a few assistants.

There are now over one hundred owls from forty different species from all over the world. The main focus is on environmental education towards school children.

Rod described the strict controls and procedures to run the centre and introduced members to Tomsk, an eight-week old Ural owl. Over 43,000 people have viewed the YouTube video featuring Rod and Tomsk. Click HERE to view.

The Club vote of thanks was given by Ian Clarkson.

Also present as a guest of the Club was Emma Thomas from Sainsbury's who exchanged ideas how we might work together on some joint community projects.
