Our Vice President Robert Menzies introduced our speakers, George Vine and Eric Hope, from the Edinburgh Group of the Institute of Advanced Motorists.

The introduction from George told us about the aims of the group and its link to the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM).

Eric then presented a series of accident statistics which highlighted that irrespective of whether it was motorways, country or Urban roads the predominant cause of accidents was not observing hazards early enough when driving. The task of the IAM and the local group was to improve driving standards through local training by experienced IAM and ex Police Class 1 Drivers.

The visual presentation of Road Hazards, their recognition and avoidance, and how to behave on the road when a motorist encounters Emergency Vehicles with sirens and blue lights was well received by members.

Details of local group membership opportunities were made available by tabled brochures.

Numerous questions from the members were humorously answered by George before Peter Cowlishaw gave the Club
